Tony Arthur '65 (Champlain College)

During a recent vacation in Barbados, retired professors emeriti Dr. David Morrison and Dr. Alena Heitlinger had lunch in Bridgetown with Tony Arthur ’65 (Champlain College). Tony was one of five students in a new course on African political economy that Professor Morrison taught in 1967-68, his first year as a faculty member in Trent's Politics Department.
Tony was a recipient of Trent's prestigious Champlain Scholarship and lived in residence in Champlain College. After graduating in Honours Sociology in 1969, he worked for a year as Assistant to the Master of Champlain, Professor Denis Smith. Tony undertook further studies at the University of Surrey and then returned to Barbados where he had a long and prominent career with the Barbados Tourist Board. He also lectured on tourism at the University of the West Indies. He went on to serve with great distinction as the High Commissioner of Barbados in London from 2008 to 2013.
