Zhaawnong Webb ’20 (Gzowski College)

Zhaawnong Webb is a dynamic educator and communicator who uses his social media platforms — with over 150,000 followers — to share Indigenous history and culture. At Trent, he worked with the First Peoples House of Learning and TRACKS Youth Program, empowering youth with environmental knowledge and helping develop Indigenous STEM learning kits for remote education.

Recognizing the importance of Indigenous voices in storytelling, Zhaawnong creates content that balances humour with education, tackling topics like the Indian Act and residential schools. He also promotes charitable giving to Indigenous organizations through his platforms.

His work bridges traditional knowledge and digital outreach, making complex histories accessible to wide audiences and inspiring meaningful dialogue.

“Indigenous peoples are finally kicking down the doors of colonialism and are taking back their space in Canada,” a nominator wrote, “and he is one of the young people who are leading this change through social media.”
