Dr. Stephen Stohn ’66, ’15 (hon) (Champlain College)  

Dr. Stephen Stohn  ’66, ’15 (hon) has exemplified what it means to be a lifelong Trent alumnus through decades of extraordinary volunteer service, leadership, mentorship, and unwavering dedication to the University and its alumni community. 

Since graduating from Trent in 1969, Dr. Stohn has remained deeply engaged with the University that helped shape his journey. As a student, he co-founded Arthur newspaper and Trent Radio, two enduring media publications that continue to foster student voice, creativity, and community connection at Trent today. 

An internationally respected entertainment lawyer, award-winning producer, songwriter, and member of the Order of Canada, Dr. Stohn has achieved tremendous success throughout his career while consistently using his platform to champion Trent and its alumni. Whether attending alumni chapter events across the country, hosting reunions, mentoring students and graduates, or serving as a proud ambassador for the University, he has continuously strengthened the bonds within the Trent alumni network. Dr. Stohn is known for making time for alumni and student gatherings of all sizes, always showing up with the same enthusiasm and approachability, reflecting his charisma and deep commitment to connection. He has also supported and energized the Trent alumni chapter events in Canada and around the world, including in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and New York, helping to strengthen global alumni ties. 

Since becoming Trent University’s twelfth Chancellor in 2019, Dr. Stohn has brought exceptional energy and authenticity to the role, immersing himself in every aspect of university and alumni life. From welcoming new students during Orientation Week to celebrating graduates at convocation, supporting alumni initiatives, participating in college traditions, and advancing philanthropic efforts, his commitment has extended far beyond ceremonial duties. His approachable nature, enthusiasm, and genuine care for the Trent community have made a lasting impact on alumni, students, faculty, and staff alike. 

For his outstanding and long-standing commitment to Trent University and its alumni community, Trent University is proud to present Dr. Stephen Stohn with the Tony Storey Alumni Service Award.
