Gordon Copp with University delegates

Gordon Copp ’76 (Otonabee College)

Dr. Gordon Copp was a environmental biologist whose lasting impact extended from Trent University to alumni communities across Europe.

After earning his B.Sc. in Biology and Environmental Science at Trent (1976–1978), Gordon completed his Ph.D. in Environmental Biology of Floodplain Fishes at Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 in France. Though his career took him abroad, he remained deeply connected to Trent.

In 2004, while living in the United Kingdom, Gordon reached out to reconnect with fellow alumni—an initiative that led to the founding of the Trent University UK Alumni Chapter. Under his leadership, the group grew from small gatherings at the Glassblower Pub in London to a vibrant UK & European Chapter, hosting events at the Canadian Consulate and welcoming visiting Trent officials.

Through his warmth, humour, and dedication, Gordon fostered a strong international alumni network that embodied Trent’s spirit of community. For over a decade of outstanding volunteer leadership, he was honoured with the Tony Storey Award for Volunteer Service. His legacy continues to inspire connection and pride among Trent alumni around the world.
